Tiger Leaping Gorge, Yunnan, China and the most dangerous day of our lives!!!

Pictures from our unbelievably beautiful and at times pretty dangerous 2 day hiking trip to the Tiger Leaping Gorge, Yunnan, south China

Yangtze River

Is this Marianne or Silje?? Someone's starting to look like their mum!!!!

Nearing our 3200 metre high point!

The sheer drops from the trek were terrifying but breathtaking nonetheless!

Stayed the night at the Halfway Lodge, which strangely wasn't half way at all...
Enjoyed the most amazing views over a beer!

Snow Mountain

After the most terrifying 40 minute downward climb we finally made it to the bottom of the gorge. Little did we know that the upward climb would be even worse...

One of the vertical Jacob's Ladders we had to climb down to reach the bottom of the gorge!

The bridge spanning the gorge gives you an idea of how far down we climbed!!!

I dare you to look over the edge!

One of the 3 ridiculously dangerous ladders we had to climb to leave the gorge.

This gives some idea of the height of the climb but doesn't in any way show the sheer drop down to the bottom of the gorge. These ladders were maintained by the locals, although this didn't stop some of the fixings from loosening on our ascent. Never again...

Suitably shocked and exhausted...

One of the most tiring days of our lives ever... Absolutely battered...

And to finish the day off we had to drive through Chinese workers exploding dynamite in the gorge in order to get back to our accommodation at the other end.

To the left of the picture a sheer drop below, but that never stopped Chinese road workers blowing up mountains!

This is a rock fall we had to run from, which missed us by a fraction.
Got caught in the dust cloud!!!

All in all one of the most amazing days ever! But saying that we wouldn't wish it on our worst enemy!
The beer tasted good at the end of this day!!!
Good to be alive!
