Terelj

Climbed to the top of a hill in Terelj
Gana our host from UB in our ger in Terelj shooting vodka before goat dinner!
A world apart but frighteningly similar!
Our host who smiled and ran absolutely everywhere!
A rare paternal moment!

Our first excursion to Terelj Eastern Mongolia

Homework Mongolian style how cute!
Typical Mongolian ger furniture
Our first of many encounters with nomadic Mongolians
Our first night in a ger with our Danish friends in Terelj Eastern Mongolia
This goat was picked up in a local market on the way to Terelj, as a gift to the local family we stayed with. We found it on the whole a rather disturbing experience but Chris thought it only right to get involved. Although a gruesome death it seems more acceptable than our mass slaughter of animals. Not one bit of the goat was wasted we even ate the internal organs, the entire goat was consumed over our 2 day stay

Arriving in Ulanbataar

View from the roof of Gana's guest house our first port of call in UB
Gana's courtyard with Lasse and Mathias
The first of too many lamb dishes consumed in Mongolia!

Leaving Russia-entering Mongolia 22-24/08/09

Industrial Russia
Rural east of the Urals Russia- leaving Irkutsk
The fantastic Mongolian restaurant car made a nice change to the Russian one!
Met American Hal, 83 year old war veteran ('Band of Brothers' para-trooper) travelling Russian and Mongolia by Trans-Mongolian train with his 72 year old Korean wife!!! Pretty impressive.

First views of Mongolian gers at sunrise as we approach the capital, Ulan Bataar.

Still Lake Baikal 21-22/08/09

New-found Danish friends, Mathias (left) and Lasse whom we continued travelling with, from Irkutsk and into Mongolia. Nice guys!
Chris' favourite bus journey so far- from Lake Baikal and back into Irkutsk!!!

Storm brewing over Lake Baikal
'I told you, Milla, this is what happens to naughty Briards in Russia!'
Where we stayed in Listvyanka village, Lake Baikal

Still Lake Baikal 21/08/09

Snacking on the local omul fish only found in Lake Baikal!
Beautiful Siberian cottages on the village road leading up to where we stayed in Listvyanka village.

There will be a whole 'Siberian Cottages' folder dedicated solely to mum and Kim and anyone else that appreciates cottages and summer gardens!!! Coming shortly!
Chris' got his own sub- folders planned, the content of which will be somewhat different :-)

I tried to stop him, but Chris missed his fire engine so much he stole one!

Lake Baikal!

Getting out of the city felt good! Sun and sea, well lake..mmmm!
Spot the difference!
Had a fantastic stroll around the hills and woods of Baikal.

Followed by a swim in the world's largest lake- freezing but worth every second!!! Absolutely beautiful!!!
